Jim Warner was born on October 31, 1923, in Gantt's Quarry, Alabama. He entered the Aviation Cadet Program of the U.S. Navy on March 4, 1943, and was commissioned an Ensign and designated a Naval Aviator on October 3, 1944. After completing Instrument Flight Instructor School at NAS Atlanta, Georgia, Ensign Warner served at NAS Whiting Field, Florida, from December 1944 to December 1945. LT Warner left active duty and joined the U.S. Naval Reserve on December 15, 1945, and served with Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron 52 (FASRON 52) at NAS Atlanta from May 1946 until he volunteered to go on active duty on December 15, 1952. After completing F4U Corsair refresher training, he served with Utility Squadron 2 (VU-2) at NAS Quonset Point, Rhode Island, from March 1953 until he left active duty and returned to the Naval Reserve on December 15, 1954. LT Warner then returned to FASRON 52, eventually rising to commander of the squadron, and remained with that unit until he retired from the Naval Reserve as a CDR on February 28, 1969. Jim completed his architecture degree at Georgia Tech in December 1949, and later established the architectural firm of Warner & Summers in February 1964. He married Betty Geiger of Brunswick, Georgia, on June 14, 1952, and they had a son and two daughters together. During his military career, he flew the Piper Cub, SNV Valiant, SNJ Texan, F6F Hellcat, F4U Corsair, TBM Avenger, AD Skyraider, A-26 Invader, and F8F Bearcat. Jim Warner died on April 21, 2012, and was buried at the Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
