Joseph Evancho was born on September 16, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on December 28, 1950, and was trained as an information specialist. Sgt Evancho served with 10th Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, before receiving an honorable discharge on October 20, 1953.
