Edward Anderson was born on September 23, 1903, in Manhattan, Kansas. He enlisted in the Aviation Cadet Program of the U.S. Army Air Corps on October 30, 1928, and was commissioned a 2d Lt and awarded his pilot wings at Kelly Field, Texas, on October 13, 1929. After completing additional training at Rockwell Field, California, from October 1929 to February 1930, Lt Anderson served at the Aircraft Tech School at March Field, California, from February 1930 to May 1934. His next assignment was as a pilot with the 16th Pursuit Group and then as commander of the 24th Pursuit Squadron at Albrook Field, Panama, from May 1934 to February 1936, followed by service as supervisor of the New England Aircraft School from February 1936 to July 1940. Capt Anderson was commander of the 41st Pursuit Squadron at Selfridge Field, Michigan, from July 1940 to January 1942, and then served as Executive Officer of the 31st Fighter Group at Selfridge from January to March 1942. Col Anderson next served as commander of the 20th Fighter Group in North Carolina from March to August 1942, followed by service as commander of the 4th Fighter Group in England from September 1942 to September 1943. During this time, he was credited with the destruction of 2 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. Gen Anderson next served as Commanding General of the 67th Fighter Wing of the 1st Air Division in England from September 1943 to July 1945. His next assignment was as Chief of Staff of Headquarters 1st Fighter Command at Mitchel Field, New York, from September 1945 to March 1947, and then as Commander of Keesler Field, Mississippi from April 1947 to March 1948. Gen Anderson was Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff at Headquarters Technical Division of Air Training Command at Scott AFB, Illinois, from April to November 1948, followed by service as Chief of Staff for Headquarters 3rd Air Division in England from November 1948 to January 1949. He served as Commanding General of the United Kingdom Air Material Area at Burtonwood, England, from January 1949 to January 1950, and then as Deputy Commanding General and Chief of Staff at Headquarters 3rd Air Division from January to July 1950. Gen Anderson served at Headquarters U.S. Air Force in the Pentagon from July 1950 to July 1954, and then served as Commander of the San Bernardino Air Material Area at Norton AFB, California, from October 1954 until his retirement from the Air Force on November 1, 1958. Edward Anderson died on April 12, 1979.
