Irvin Drummer was born on November 28, 1920, in Baltimore, Maryland. He worked as a construction foreman before enlisting in the U.S. Army on March 4, 1943, at Fort Meade, Maryland. After completing basic and advanced training at Camp Carrabelle, Florida, and Fort Lewis, Washington, Drummer was assigned to the 176th Quartermaster Laundry Company, and deployed to Camp Lucky Strike, France, in March 1945. The 176th was tasked with setting up and supporting facilities for field hospitals and their supporting personnel. He moved with the Company to Caserne de Seilles, Belgium, in April 1945, and to Marseille, France, in June 1945. With the war in Europe at an end, Sgt Drummer deployed with his Company to the Pacific Theater, serving at Manila, in the Philippines, from August 1945 to January 1946. He received an honorable discharge from the Army at Fort Meade on February 5, 1946. After the war, Irvin continued in the construction field and owned his own company and a marina, and later retired as a vice president of a large construction firm operating in 4 states. He died on January 24, 2005, and was buried at the Chesterfield Cemetery in Centreville, Maryland.
