Desi Arnaz (born Desiderio A. Arnaz y de Acha, III; name legally changed to Desi Arnaz on October 1, 1943) was born on March 2, 1917, in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. After the Cuban Revolution of 1933, Arnaz and his family immigrated to the United States, and he worked as a musician and actor before being inducted into the U.S. Army during World War II on April 27, 1943. SSgt Arnaz served with Headquarters Company, 1950th Service Command Unit, Arlington Special Training Center, at Arlington, California, until joining the Unit Personnel Section, 1986th Service Command Unit at Birmingham General Hospital, in Van Nuys, California, in March 1944. He was honorably discharged from the Army on December 1, 1945. During this time he served as an Entertainment Director for the wounded soldiers being treated at the hospital. After leaving active duty, Arnaz returned to the entertainment industry and worked as an actor, producer, writer, and director until his death on December 2, 1986. His remains were cremated and scattered in the Sea of Cortés at Rancho Las Cruces, near La Paz, Mexico. He was most famous for playing Ricky Ricardo in the television show I Love Lucy.
