Jack Price was born on July 26, 1918, in Grand Junction, Colorado. He enlisted in the Aviation Cadet Program of the Army Air Corps on March 14, 1941, and was commissioned a 2Lt and awarded his pilot wings on October 31, 1941. Price was assigned to the 84th Fighter Squadron of the 78th Fighter Group in May 1942, and deployed to England in November 1942. He became the commander of the 84th FS in September 1943, and served in that position until February 1944, when he was made Operations Officer for 8th Fighter Command. Price served with the 67th Fighter Wing in England from September 1944 to February 1945, when he was assigned to the 55th Fighter Squadron of the 20th Fighter Group, returning to the United States in September 1945. During World War II, Price was credited with destroying 5 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. After the war, he served at Randolph Field, Texas, from September 1945 to January 1946, and then at Luke Field, Arizona, from January to February 1946. He was assigned to Lowry Field, Colorado, from March 1946 to April 1950, when he was transferred to Headquarters U.S. Air Force, serving at the Pentagon until July 1955. After completing the All Weather Interceptor Course at Moody AFB, Georgia, Price was assigned as Assistant Director of Operations, Director of Operations, Inspector General, and then Director of Plans and Programming for the 10th Air Division at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, serving from January 1956 to July 1959. He served as Director of Operations and Training and then Director of Operations for the 34th Air Division at Kirkland AFB, New Mexico, from July 1959 to September 1960, when he became commander of the Albuquerque Air Defense Squadron at Kirkland AFB, serving until October 1960. Price was then transferred to Richards-Gebaur AFB, Missouri, where he served as the Director of Operations and Training for the 33rd Air Division from October 1960 to July 1961. From July 1961 to July 1964, Col Price served as commander of the 331st Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Webb AFB, Texas. His final assignment was as Chief of the Fighter Branch in the Weapons Division for the Director of Operations at Headquarters NORAD, Ent AFB, Colorado, from July 1964 until his retirement from the Air Force on January 31, 1968. Jack Price died on July 29, 2001.
