George Tombe was born in Castro Valley, California. He entered the U.S. Air Force Academy in June 1987, and was commissioned a 2d Lt on May 29, 1991. After attending Undergraduate Pilot Training at Reese AFB, Texas, from July 1991 to November 1992, Lt Tombe served as Deputy and then Chief of the Financial Analysis Branch of the 601st Comptroller Squadron at Sembach AB, Germany, from November 1992 to April 1995. His next assignment was as Flight Commander of Financial Analysis with the 81st Comptroller Squadron at Keesler AFB, Mississippi, from April 1995 to December 1997, followed by service as Chief of Budget Analysis with the Financial Management and Comptroller Directorate with Headquarters Air Education and Training Command (AETC) at Randolph AFB, Texas, from December 1997 to May 2000. Major Tombe served as Executive Officer to the Comptroller with the Financial Management and Comptroller Directorate at Headquarters AETC from May 2000 to June 2001, and then served as Operations and Maintenance Appropriation Manager with Budget Operations and Personnel in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller at the Pentagon from June 2001 to May 2003. His next assignment was as Assistant for Congressional Matters for the Budget and Appropriation Liaison in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller at the Pentagon from May 2003 to July 2005, followed by Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, from July 2005 to July 2006. Lieutenant Colonel Tombe served as Commander of the 43rd Comptroller Squadron at Pope AFB, North Carolina, from July 2006 to July 2008, and then as Chief of Budget Operations in the Financial Management and Comptroller Directorate with Headquarters Pacific Air Forces at Hickam AFB, Hawaii, from July 2008 to July 2011. HIs next assignment was as Deputy Chief of Budget with the Financial Management and Comptroller Directorate at Headquarters Pacific Air Forces at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii from July 2011 to July 2012, followed by Air War College at Maxwell AFB from July 2012 to June 2013. Colonel Tombe has served as Commander of the 81st Training Group at Keesler AFB since July 2013. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Air Force Academy in 1991; and his Master's degree in both Business Administration and Management, and Information Systems Management from St. Mary's University, Texas, in 2001.
