Mark Harris was born on May 1, 1958, in Tennessee. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 19, 1979, and graduated from basic training at NTC San Diego, California, in August 1979. Harris next attended Hull Technician training at NTC San Diego from August to November 1979, followed by Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training from November 1979 to July 1980. His first assignment was with UDT-11 at NAB Coronado, California, from July 1980 until he was killed in a Swimmer Delivery Vehicle accident on November 4, 1980. Mark Harris was buried at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.
