Michael Roha was born on September 10, 1947, in San Diego, California. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on August 29, 1966, and completed basic training at MCRD San Diego in August 1966. Pvt Roha next completed infantry training at MCB Camp Pendleton, California, and then served as a rifleman with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment of the 2nd Marine Division at MCB Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, from January to July 1967. His next assignment was as a rifleman with Company D, 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment of the 3rd Marine Division in South Vietnam from July to November 1967, followed by service as a rifleman with the 3rd Combined Action Group of III Marine Amphibious Force in South Vietnam from November 1967 until he was captured and taken as a Prisoner of War on January 7, 1968. PFC Roha managed to escape from his captors on January 21, 1968, and made it back to friendly lines the next day. He then served with the Military Police Company at MCRD San Diego from February to May 1968, and with Headquarters Company, MCRD San Diego from May 1968 until he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps on April 1, 1969. Michael Roha died on March 25, 1997, and was buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
