Matthew Dooley was born in Washington, D.C., in 1971. He entered the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on July 2, 1990, and was commissioned a 2d Lt of Armor in the U.S. Army on May 28, 1994. His first assignment was as a Tank Platoon Leader with 4th Battalion of the 67th Armor Regiment in Germany and Bosnia from 1994 to 1996, followed by service as a Company Executive Officer with 4th Battalion, 67th Armor, and then with 1st Battalion of the 37th Armor Regiment in Germany and Bosnia from 1996 to 1997. Lt Dooley served as Aide-de-Camp to the Assistant Division Commander for Maneuver with Headquarters 1st Armored Division, also in Germany and in Bosnia, from 1997 to 1998, and then attended the Armor Officer Advanced Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky. His next assignment was as Operations Officer for the Secretary to the General Staff of III Corps at Fort Hood, Texas, in 1999, followed by service as Motor Officer for 3rd Battalion of the 8th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood from 1999 to 2000. Capt Dooley served as Commander of A Company, 3rd Battalion of the 8th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood from 2000 to 2002, and then as Commander of Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion of the 8th Cavalry Regiment from 2002 to 2003. His next assignment was as an Instructor with the Armor Captains Career Course and the Combat Leader Course at Fort Knox from 2003 to 2005, followed by Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, from 2005 to 2006. Maj Dooley served as S3 for 1st Squadron of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood from 2006 to 2007, and then as Executive Officer for 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, at Fort Hood and deployed to Iraq from 2007 to 2008. LTC Dooley's next assignment was as Regimental Planner for the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment deployed to Iraq and then at Fort Hood from 2008 to 2009, followed by service as Aide-de-Camp to the Commander of III Corps at Fort Hood and deployed to Iraq from 2009 to 2010. LTC Dooley served as an Instructor at the Joint Forces Staff College, National Defense University, in Norfolk, Virginia, from 2010 to 2012, and then as Chief of Robotics Development/Dhief of Lethality Branch with the U.S. Army Capabilities Integration Center from November 2012 until his retirement from the Army on December 1, 2015.
