Bobby Jones was born on May 5, 1945, in Macon, Georgia. He was commissioned a 2d Lt in the U.S. Air Force Reserve on September 21, 1968, and after completing Medical School, he went on active duty as a Doctor with the rank of Captain in the U.S. Air Force on July 8, 1972. Capt Jones next completed the Officer Basic Military Training Medical Course at Brooks AFB, Texas, and then the Aerospace Medical Primary Course at Brooks in September 1972. After completing Jungle Survival School, he was assigned as a Flight Surgeon to the 432nd Air Force Hospital at Udorn Royal Thai AFB, Thailand, from October 1972 until he was killed in action while flying aboard an F-4 Phantom II on November 28, 1972. He was officially listed as Missing in Action until being declared dead on August 29, 1978, and was promoted to Major during the time he was listed as missing.
