Levi Dillon was born on July 15, 1919, in Roanoke, Virginia. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces on September 8, 1941, and after completing basic training, flight engineer training, and aerial gunnery training, he was assigned to the 324th Bomb Squadron of the 91st Bomb Group in England in September 1942. After flying 4 missions as Engineer/Top Turret Gunner aboard the famous B-17 "Memphis Belle", he transferred to the 306th Bomb Group where he finished his tour, returning to the United States in the summer of 1943. Sgt Dillon spent the rest of the war as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician in the United States. After the war he served as an aircraft maintenance technician and aircraft inspector at bases in the United States and overseas until going into recruiting in August 1957. After completing recruiting school in October 1957, MSgt Dillon served as a recruiter in Charlottsville, Virginia, from November 1957 to July 1958, and then in Richmond, Virginia, from July 1958 until his retirement from the Air Force on December 31, 1962. Levi Dillon died on December 11, 1998, and was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Virginia.
